The Public Library: The Information Place
The Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library is an essential community information service providing materials and programs in support of the lifelong learning, recreational and economic interests of all citizens of Marion County.

The Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library provides materials, programs and services in support of the lifelong learning, recreational and economic interests of all Marion County citizens. Serving residents since 1873, the Public Library system currently consists of 22 branches throughout Marion County, the Interim Central Library downtown, and bookmobile services.
IMCPL's collection of over 2.1 million items includes a variety of formats: books, books on tape, magazines, large print materials, audiocassettes, videocassettes, compact discs and DVD's. Foreign language materials are an integral part of the Library's collection. Items may be checked out by patrons with a library card, which may be obtained free of charge at any Library location.
