About Wayne Branch Library
The Wayne Branch Library became the sixth of seven new branch libraries in Marion County between 1967 and 1971. Its original location was in the then-newly built shopping center at 7341 Rockville Road on the county's far west side. The branch was enlarged in March 1973, but the need for a permanent, larger, library-owned branch became apparent as residential and commercial areas grew rapidly in the late 1970s. A 3.3-acre site at 198 South Girls School Road was purchased in 1979. Additional land gifts increased the library site to 4.12 acres. The new 19,600 square-foot Wayne Library was completed in February, 1983. By the end of 1984, the new branch's first full year of operation in the present building, circulation reached 210,513, with steady and continuous increases noted each year since. |
