Until the anticipated opening of the transformed Central Library in 2008, a full range of library services continues to be offered at the Interim Central Library, 202 N. Alabama Street.

In addition to a large collection of print and audio-visual materials on all subjects, the Interim Central Library houses a Computer Lab that features 30 public computers used for teaching patrons word processing skills and using the Internet for job searches. Regular classes are provided to help beginning entrepreneurs do market research and to help those in the non-profit arena identify sources of grants.

The Interim Central Library's Riley Room provides materials in all formats for children. The Library also has an extensive range of newspapers, periodicals and reference materials.

In 2005, the Interim Central Library experienced a 10.1% increase in circulation over 2004, and for the first quarter of 2006 circulation is up 5.8%.

The Interim Central Library is open Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
